Baby sleep schedule generator & bedtime calculator
Get a baby sleep schedule for today, with every nap, wake window and bedtime worked out from your baby's exact age, newborn to 3 years. This one gives you the whole day โ every nap, every wake window, bedtime, and when to expect your baby in the morning โ worked out from their actual date of birth rather than an age bracket.
Sleep durations follow AAP-endorsed AASM guidance.

We use the exact date, so the plan shifts as your baby grows.
Add your baby's date of birth (or pick an age range) and this morning's wake-up time to see the whole day.
How much sleep does a baby need?
Newborns sleep 14โ17 hours in 24 hours, in short stretches around the clock. Between 4 and 12 months, that settles to 12โ16 hours, with most of it at night. Toddlers need 11โ14 hours, including naps. The chart below breaks it down by age.
Baby sleep schedule by age (chart)
Total sleep follows the American Academy of Sleep Medicine consensus endorsed by the AAP. AASM makes no recommendation below four months โ there isn't enough evidence โ so the newborn rows use the wider National Sleep Foundation range instead. Wake windows and night sleep aren't quoted from anywhere: they're what the rest of the numbers force, because a day has to add up to 24 hours. Where a row shows a wide window range, that bracket spans a nap drop โ the same baby needs much longer windows on fewer naps. The first two rows have no day and night columns because babies that age don't yet have either: they sleep in a repeating cycle around the clock, and a body clock emerges between 8 and 12 weeks.

Bedtime depends on when your baby woke up and how the day's naps went. Use the calculator above for today's exact time.
Newborn sleep schedule by week
In the first 12 weeks, newborns don't follow a set schedule yet. They feed, stay awake for a short while and go back to sleep, around the clock. The table shows how that changes week by week.
| Week | Total sleep (24 hrs) | Sleeps in 24 hrs | Wake window |
|---|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | 16โ18 hrs | 8โ12 | 30โ45 min |
| Week 2 | 16โ18 hrs | 8โ12 | 30โ45 min |
| Week 3 | 15โ18 hrs | 7โ10 | 30โ60 min |
| Week 4 | 15โ17 hrs | 7โ10 | 45โ60 min |
| Week 5 | 15โ17 hrs | 6โ8 | 45โ60 min |
| Week 6 | 14โ17 hrs | 6โ8 | 45โ75 min |
| Week 7 | 14โ17 hrs | 6โ7 | 1 hr โ 1 hr 15 min |
| Week 8 | 14โ17 hrs | 6โ7 | 1 hr โ 1 hr 30 min |
| Week 9 | 14โ17 hrs | 5โ7 | 1 hr โ 1 hr 30 min |
| Week 10 | 14โ16 hrs | 5โ7 | 1 hr โ 1 hr 30 min |
| Week 11 | 14โ16 hrs | 5โ6 | 1 hr 15 min โ 1 hr 45 min |
| Week 12 | 14โ16 hrs | 5โ6 | 1 hr 15 min โ 1 hr 45 min |
Around 6 weeks, many babies have a growth spurt and want to feed more often, so sleep can be patchier for a few days. Between 8 and 12 weeks, you may start to see longer night stretches of 4โ6 hours.

How the schedule is worked out
Age, not an age bracket. A dropdown gives a five-month-old and a nearly seven-month-old the same answer. We read your baby's sleep needs between age brackets instead, so the plan moves week by week as they grow.
Wake windows lengthen through the day. The first window after morning wake-up is the shortest your baby handles; the one before bed is the longest. We spread the age-appropriate range across the day in that order rather than repeating one number.
Naps are front-loaded. Nap durations add up to the middle of the daytime sleep range for your baby's age, weighted toward the first nap of the day โ the one that reliably consolidates โ and rounded to five minutes.
Bedtime is lights out, not asleep. Babies take roughly 10 to 20 minutes to fall asleep, so we subtract a 15-minute buffer from the end of the final wake window. The time shown is when your baby should be in the crib with the routine already finished.
Overnight closes the loop. Night sleep is the age-appropriate daily total minus the day sleep in your plan, which is what produces the predicted morning wake-up. If that number looks early, the day sleep is usually the lever.
We also flag when the math runs into a wall โ a last nap that ends too late, a bedtime that lands outside 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM, or an age where a nap transition is likely underway โ rather than quietly returning a number that won't work.

Knowing the schedule is the easy half
The plan tells you when. Cradlewise handles what happens next: it detects the early stirs before your baby is fully awake, starts bouncing to settle them back down, and shows you what actually happened overnight through the built-in monitor.
This calculator is a planning tool, not medical advice. Sleep duration ranges follow the American Academy of Sleep Medicine consensus endorsed by the AAP (Paruthi et al., 2016).
